a. Why do we need to protect LEDs (we use low-power LEDs for analysis) Because LEDs have many advantages, they are becoming more and more common in people's lives, and its utilization has become very huge nowadays. It is a new device with its own characteristics of utilization. LED is a voltage-sensitive device. When working with each LED, the current should not exceed 20mA, too much LED will be easily discarded (except for high power). If the LED is used normally, its life is often long in black and white. However, LEDs are always easy to break in actual use, so what's the principle? In fact, I didn't think about the utilization characteristics of the LED and add a protection circuit to it. LED is an optoelectronic semiconductor device, which is easily damaged by static electricity during the installation process. This necessitates electrostatic protection during the installation process. We have invented many manufacturers who don’t have this point of view or don’t understand it at all. This is impossible. In reality, the current of 20mA is the upper limit of the LED. However, the current will increase due to various reasons in the use. If the protection step is not adopted, the increased current will exceed the certain time and amplitude. Will destroy.


b, The reason for the destruction of the LED

1. Sudden increase in power supply voltage. There are many reasons for the sudden increase of the power supply voltage. For example, the quality of the power supply, or the improper use of the user, etc., may cause the power supply voltage to suddenly increase.


2. The short circuit of a component or printed line or other wire in the circuit forms a local short circuit of the LED power supply path, which increases the voltage in this place.


3. A certain LED forms a short circuit due to its own quality damage and its original voltage drop is transferred to other LEDs.


4. The temperature inside the lamp is too high, which deteriorates the characteristics of the LED.


5. Water enters into the lamp, and the water is conductive.


6. Failure to prevent static electricity during the installation time has caused the LED's interior to be damaged by static electricity. Regardless of the normal voltage and current value applied, it is extremely easy to cause damage to the LED. For these reasons, the LED current has increased significantly due to the city, and soon the LED chip will be discarded due to overheating. According to our history, most of the LEDs are short-circuited between the north and south poles after being abandoned, and a few are open circuits. Each LED has a voltage drop of about 3.2V, the color difference, and the voltage is slightly different. After it is discarded, the string of LEDs will not emit light. If this voltage is short-circuited, it will be transferred to other LEDs, causing other LEDs to have a larger current, and other LEDs will be discarded more quickly, and even the power supply will be critical. It turns out that small damage can easily cause major disturbances. LEDs are usually installed in high places, and the installation time is not easy, and the maintenance is even more difficult. Therefore, the cover of LED is a realistic demand, but now it is not valued by everyone, and many people have no choice but to deal with the difficulty of punishment.
